In keeping with the original license issued by the Mozambican government to the founding investors in The Sanctuary, development of homes and commercial lodges on The Sanctuary is tightly governed by a comprehensive set of rules and requirements pertaining to all aesthetic and functional elements of the development.

All building works, from the initial planning through to the entire construction process, is closely monitored by a Building and Aesthetics Committee appointed by the Board, with additional close supervision by The Sanctuary’s on-site management.

Indiscriminate and insensitive development is avoided at all costs in order that the visual and environmental impact of any development, including the process of building itself, is minimized as far as possible in pursuance of the ‘lightest possible touch’ values of The Sanctuary.
